Yesterday was day 3 of the new year (only day 2 of my resolution possibilities), and already I’m making progress. As my stomach was aching for food I realized, there is really nothing good to eat in this kitchen. So I started making a grocery list, when a fantabulous idea popped into my head….Let’s look through recipe books and get ideas for what meals we can make, and have the ingredients fill our cart, instead of binging desires to have everything.
It was so productive. I bought food and planned 5 meals (I should be good for 5 weeks according to the resolution). We only allowed ourselves a few choice items that neglected to make the list. You know the essential frozen pizza, which is pretty much a staple in our house. And some random things that were on sale: 12-pack of coke (we did have to put the cookies away in order to justify the coke purchase though), cottage cheese- cause it was on sale, and Pine Nuts- because they might be my new favorte-ist food, and I eat the expensive buggers by the handful.
Miraculously, our grocery bill was only $75. We were not shopping at Aldi (which there is no shame in doing that), our foods were not expired, and I didn’t even have any coupons to use. This is a huge accomplishment, seeing how just 3 years ago I was living alone in my house in Chicago, and I was easily spending $300 on groceries.
I must mention I really thought I was going to be doing so much more entertaining. I was always ready to make any meal you might be craving…lobster, enchiladias, you name it.
But now, fedding 2 mouths, we cut the grocery bill drastically. I’m so proud of me.
So last night was another night of pure accomplishment…
Worked out at the YMCA-check (which required me to relearn how to lift weights…but so did 90 other people)
I even put my clothes away (off the floor)-check.
Maybe next week I’ll write a book, buy a house, and start an investment plan….but quite frankly I’m okay with just being 50% at the end of the year!
